TRAINING MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ON ONE HEALTH PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE CAPACITY BUILDING

As a follow-on activity of the One Health emergency preparedness and response training module outline development, the key stakeholders converged at the Erata Hotel from October 13- 17, 2025, to develop training materials for these outlines.

The five-day workshop brought together representatives from key institutions, including the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service (GHS), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the Veterinary Services Department (VSD), and the Department of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs/ Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate (EHSD). These agencies represent the human, animal, and environmental health sectors as well as governance and community leadership, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to the One Health approach in managing health emergencies and disasters.

The sessions facilitated a comprehensive harmonisation of content across various modules, emphasising the importance of technical precision, adherence to international standards, and contextual relevance to Ghana’s preparedness and response frameworks. The outcomes of these sessions included enhanced consistency in content delivery, improved alignment with global best practices, and strengthened capacity to address national emergency response needs effectively.  Deliverables for the workshop were participant guides, instructor guides, lesson plans and slide decks developed for eleven (11) core modules, covering thematic areas such as surveillance and early warning systems, data management and reporting, risk assessment and hazard mapping, simulation exercises, monitoring and evaluation, coordination mechanisms, and risk communication in One Health emergency response.
